Are you ready to go back now to the first Gospel in your New Testament? You’ll quickly see why we reversed the order. Matthew seems to be building off of Mark’s organization—and making some very important additions. We’ll find teaching that’s only here—like the Sermon on the Mount, with the Beatitudes and our only reference to the Church in the Gospels. Matthew has a lot of other interesting characteristics—some that would make sense to Jews, but others to Gentiles.
