Compass Commentary
Someday, at a time that we don’t know, we will be taken from this earth and stand before the Lord to give an account of what we did with the skills and resources that He gave us. Our works will be tested and what survives will only be those things done with a pure motive in Christ’s love. God’s Word reveals to us the standard by which we and our works in this life will be judged in eternity. Motives, intents, desires will all be exposed, and nothing done with selfish intent or personal benefit will even amount to a hill of beans. If we did good things but only to hear the applause and receive the recognition from others, there will be no reward for us. But if we quietly went about our business and gave a cup of cold water to someone who was thirsty, and did it with the love of Christ, the reward will be great. Remember that the why’s behind what we do, can be more important that what we actually do. Make sure that our motives please the Lord.
