Compass Commentary

Can you imagine what Jesus’s disciples were thinking when He told them that He would be leaving? Here they had given up their lives, family and careers to follow Him, and Jesus was about to abandoned them. Then He tells them part of His plan. They would not be left alone, but He would be giving them an advocate, the Spirit of truth, the Holy Spirit. Did they have any idea what He was saying? Perhaps not at that moment, but they came to understand that Jesus was still with them, just in another form, and living within them! The Holy Spirit enters into our very being when we accept Christ as our Savior. As Jesus told His disciples, the Spirit will teach us the ways of Christ, remind us of what He has said through His Word, give us wisdom and insights in our every-day activities, and calm our fears when we become anxious. But the world will not experience the Holy Spirit or even understand what it is. But this is an amazing blessing from God for those who know and love Jesus Christ personally.
