Note

Keegan is a crazy soul who has a compassionate heart. A couple summers ago, after hearing stories of children who could not attend school in Swaziland, Africa, due to not having proper footwear, he decided to do something to make a difference. He pledged to go barefoot for an entire year in an attempt to raise money and raise awareness of the needs of others.

Keegan’s goal is to raise enough money to purchase 365 pairs of shoes to get to children in Swaziland.

While you may not have a lot of money to give at this stage of your life, you can still have an incredible impact on God’s kingdom. In this section we want to encourage you to prayerfully think about how you can use what God has given you, to impact the lives of others. Download the Generosity Plan worksheet to get started.

The Generosity Grid is intended to help you evaluate your giving. For most, their giving is going to be more heavily weighted toward a ministry or need for which God has given them a particular passion.

The top of the grid represents the basic categories of recipients: your church, evangelism, discipleship, and the needy. The other axis represents geography. Christ said, “. . . You shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Similarly, we have divided the geography into local (Jerusalem), national (Judea), and global (remotest parts of the earth).

Here’s how it works:

  1. Fill in the appropriate amount for your income.
  2. Prayerfully evaluate dollar amounts for giving to the different categories in the grid. We provide this grid as a reminder of the different areas of impact your giving can have and to challenge you to prayerfully determine where the Lord would have you give.
  3. As you enter dollar amounts, the grid will calculate your percentage of giving based on your income.

Compass Commentary

Today’s passage gives us insight into the mind of Christ. He clearly knows who is a true believer in the Lordship of Jesus, and who is just pretending to be. He divides us into two groups and passes judgement on us, either to eternal punishment or to eternal life. One of the examples He uses reveals that are hearts are exposed by how we use our time and our money. Jesus tells us that when we give to Kingdom work, we are giving to Christ Himself. When we do acts of kindness to others like ministering to the hungry, thirsty, stranger, sick, naked or imprisoned, we are expressing love directly to Jesus. Jesus identifies with these, the beneficiaries of our generosity. It is as if we gave a cup of cold water to Christ Himself! A great inheritance awaits those who show love to others in the name of Christ.
