With so many explicit parallels between these two events, it’s easy to see why some interpret Jesus’ Passion as an apocalyptic event. The elevated importance of Jesus’ Passion to early Christians is evident in these connections. For the Church, Jesus’ saving work began a new era in history, opened to the Kingdom of God and looking ahead to the end of the world.
