At the end of someone’s life, it’s not unusual to have a conversation about inheritance.

The Old Testament gives a rather unusual account of an inheritance conversation. Elijah has come to the end of his days. He is speaking with Elisha and asks him, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” (2 Kings 2:9, NIV). Elisha responds, “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit.”

There are many ways we might expect Elijah to respond, but this is what Elijah says: “You have asked a difficult thing, yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours” (2 Kings 2:10, NIV).
