Driven out of Jerusalem:

On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

Acts 8:1 (NIV)

Jesus’ disciples are driven out of Jerusalem by persecution in Acts 8. Read the following passages from Genesis and Ezekiel and consider the comparison with Acts 8.

The Garden of Eden:

So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

Genesis 3:23-24 (NIV)

The Tower of Babel:

So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Genesis 11:8-9 (NIV)

The Babylonian Exile:

I will disperse you among the nations and scatter you through the countries; and I will put an end to your uncleanness.

Ezekiel 22:15 (NIV)

  1. What does the Acts 8 scene have in common with the other biblical scenes (e.g. Garden of Eden, Tower of Babel, Babylonian Exile)? What is different?
