Our last lesson hit on the theme of scattering; this one will emphasize the theme of restoration.

Read Acts 2:1-5

Then read these passages from the Old Testament:

Hear the word of the Lord, you nations; proclaim it in distant coastlands: “He who scattered Israel will gather them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.”
Jeremiah 31:10 (NIV)

He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.
Isaiah 40:11 (NIV)

At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you. I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they have suffered shame.
Zephaniah 3:19 (NIV)

  1. What do these prophetic passages (Jeremiah 31:10; Isaiah 40:11; Zephaniah 3:19) have in common with the scene of Pentecost in Acts 2?
