Have you been to a wedding lately? No matter how casual it might have been, there are always formalities. Ways of marking that the occasion is profoundly meaningful and deserving of sober reflection. So it shouldn’t be surprising that when God calls people into an intimate relationship with Himself it will be a solemn affair.

In the last lesson we took a look at the heart of the covenant invitation. It’s about a relationship far more than it’s about rules. But that relationship is a formal one, with expectations and promises. How do you think Israel fared after this awesome invitation? About as well as they did after the miracles in the desert!

As you enter this lesson, put yourself in the sandals of our spiritual ancestors. Would you be ready to make this commitment? Not just to say the words, but to stand firm even when God seemed to go silent?

Let’s see how they did after their first and second invitations into covenant.
