Opening Deuteronomy means the first part of our journey through the Bible is almost over. We’ve made it all the way from Eden, to Egypt, to the edge of the Jordan River! We’ve seen God’s promise extend from an individual, to a flourishing family, to a mighty people. Thankfully, this book will summarize a good bit of that journey, especially God’s revelation on Mt. Sinai and Israel’s long sojourn through the wilderness.

If the details of the laws or the travel itinerary are fuzzy, Deuteronomy will give you a recap. Moses will synthesize what’s most important to remember, to understand and to pass on. This is a book that prepares a new generation to grasp the past even as they prepare to join God’s mission across the Jordan.  Deuteronomy will be a hinge—and we want to make sure we look in both directions, behind and ahead, with the lenses Moses provides.
