The book of Proverbs is often misquoted. The importance of the Bible in Western culture sometimes leads people to attribute non-biblical sayings to this familiar book, and to similar texts in other parts of the Bible. When Mike Ditka was fired as head coach of the Chicago Bears, he took solace in a well-known maxim:

Scripture tells you that all things shall pass. This, too, shall pass.

Similarly, when President Obama was giving a speech on immigration he said, 

The good book says don’t throw stones at glass houses.
