Pete Seeger’s song “Turn! Turn! Turn!” made Ecclesiastes 3 famous, especially after it was sung by The Byrds in 1965. But Ecclesiastes has also been referenced in many films as well. The Academy Awards Best Picture film Platoon (1986) opens with text from Ecclesiastes 11:9 (KJV).

“Rejoice O young man,
In thy youth …”
—Ecclesiastes

The film explores, among other things, the loss of youth for soldiers as they face the harsh realities of life, death and war. While this is one of the more memorable uses of Ecclesiastes in modern art, there have been many others, sometimes in the form of titles of popular films.
