Behind | Solomonic Authorship of Ecclesiastes

Despite these concerns, there are still good reasons for accepting Solomon’s authorship. The following reasons have been offered:

1. The acceptance of Solomon’s authorship of Ecclesiastes from ancient times until Luther’s day.

2. The writer identifies himself as “the son of David and king in Jerusalem.” He also mentions his great works; the book also deals extensively with the wisdom theme which points to Solomon instead of some unknown writer (1:1, 2:4, etc.).

3. The language and content of the book fit Solomon’s time and vocabulary.

4. Many words, ideas and phrases in Proverbs and the Song of Solomon appear in Ecclesiastes. They have the ring of Solomon’s authentic expressions.
