In this lesson, we’ve learned about the lament cycle—and learned that the reversal doesn’t always occur in the present age. While it does in Job’s story, there are many cases when the reversal will only come in future glory with Christ.

We paused Michael Card’s song at the point where Job is at a low point. There is no promised reversal in this life. He is simply in a state of having descended—feeling the full force of abandonment—yet knowing that his condition is not a case of divine retribution for his sin.

  1. Have you ever experienced this kind of valley? How can a person, in spite of their condition, worship a God who allows this to happen?
  1. How can this kind of experience be one of spiritual growth and deeper grounding in relationship with God?
