Ecclesiastes has plenty of realism and resignation—maybe more than you were expecting! It actually feels pretty pessimistic, but you can’t argue with the conclusion that everything “under the sun” is futile if we try to make it our ultimate goal. Like Proverbs, Ecclesiastes has wisdom that comes from experience. But it’s also anchored to faith in God, and that’s important for our takeaway. Learn from life. Learn from those who have gone before us. And always look beyond this life for ultimate meaning.
