We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).

Compass Commentary

In view of eternity past and eternity to come, our lives can appear to be totally meaningless, which is a pretty depressing viewpoint. But the fact of the matter is that we all have the God-given ability to make a difference today that will make a difference for all eternity. As we invest in people, our family, friends and even strangers, we can share the love of Christ that can impact where they will spend eternity, in the presence of God or absent the Lord. In addition to influencing the people that the Lord places in our inner circles, we can also impact the lives of people that we have never met, and probably never will meet this side of heaven. How can we do this? Through the investment of our financial resources, we can help those called to serve in foreign countries, doing the work to share the gospel, minister to the sick, poor and homeless, and actively demonstrating the love of Christ. While each of us can “number our days” by estimating how much longer we might expect to live, perhaps a greater challenge is to reflect back on the previous six months or a year. Ask yourself what you have done to influence eternity for God’s glory. If you don’t like the answer to that question, then get to work now!
