Have you ever maintained a discipleship relationship (being discipled or discipling someone) at a distance, without the benefit of routine personal contact? or, similarly, has an author had particular influence in your growth in Christ?

  1. What are some of the challenges of this form of “distance” education? 

It can be difficult to maintain a sense of intimacy or develop a sense of trust in these kinds of encounters. Many other challenges are present as well. On the flip side, certain advantages exist in these situations as well. 

Among other things, these kinds of encounters can make for more thoughtful, deliberate exchanges. It allows a learner to reflect on and re-read the ideas of a teacher, and, if it’s a two-way relationship, to respond thoughtfully. 

  1. What are some of the advantages of learning from someone who writes what they want you to learn?
