If you caught the message of this lesson, then you are well on your way to understanding one of the most important tensions in the New Covenant. The goal of our salvation is to live as a new creation. Life . . . real life . .. empowered by the Holy Spirit . . . that’s the end game.

If you followed Paul’s reasoning, chapter by chapter, then you got to the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5, which becomes a sort of “aha” moment. It’s by the Spirit that we really “keep the law.” Hopefully this reminds you of one of the messages in the Gospels—the message of a righteousness that “exceeds that of the Pharisees,” of abiding in Christ to be fruitful. That keeps the heart of the gospel relevant for all of us, all the time.
