In the background of Galatians is something of an apostolic dispute between Paul and Peter. All of the apostles will reject the suggestion that gentiles should be circumcised in order to be saved at the Jerusalem Council in ca. AD 50 (Acts 15). Bubbling in the background was another aspect of Jewish-gentile relations—the question of whether Jews should eat at the same table as gentiles.
