Overview and Objectives

Lesson Overview

In Lesson Three, we wrestle with the age-old question: How can we make sense of life’s bad experiences in the light of what we believe about a good, all-powerful, loving God? We also discuss why it is imperative for “ministers” to wrestle with that question themselves, before attempting to help others.

Lesson Objectives

When you complete this lesson, you should be able to do the following:

  • Explain why some have walked away from the Christian faith over the problem of God allowing suffering.
  • Realize why it’s important for Christians to come to terms with this issue before ministering to people in pain.
Personal Reflection

As you proceed through this lesson have the following question in mind.
Have you ever questioned the goodness of God? What circumstances caused you to wrestle with that?
