We have obviously focused our attention through the 5 Books of Moses on God and on God’s people as a covenant community. But it’s been helpful to look at the singular figure whose life and ministry is so central in four of those five books, and who is also the author of the content of this part of Scripture.

Is there a Mt. Nebo in your own life? Has God ever called you to work toward a mission, and then to step aside as others carry the mission onward, into the Promised Land? If so, you’re in good company. Moses toiled and struggled for decades; he showed extraordinary bravery and leadership. In the end he could only climb Mt. Nebo and gaze over the river into the land of promise. But his mission was part of a larger mission—and God treasures the one who plants as much as the one who reaps.

We hope you’ve taken away some important leadership lessons in this closer look at Moses. Your journal is always a good place to record reflections about how God is speaking to you personally.
