We have looked at the creative tension between divine and human action in Joshua. Our effort and sacrifice—and even failure—can be complemented by God’s involvement in a variety of ways.

  1. First, identify an event in your life where your mistake (like Joshua’s with Gibeon) led to a surprising intervention of God.
  1. Now record an instance where you experienced God’s general blessing on your well-planned efforts (without any evidence of the “miraculous”).
  1. Finally, record an occasion where God miraculously intervened in your life so dramatically that all human action seemed almost irrelevant.
