We will have four more lessons to make sense of Joshua, but this has been a good start. If the stories of war are really accounts of the Divine King’s judgment on a rebellious people, then Joshua is clearly “prophetic history.” It sheds light on God’s justice and His redemptive work in His world. We can already see the focus on God holding people and nations accountable to honor Him. This is something that both Canaanites and Israelites have to learn, as we’ll see in our next lesson.
