We’ve come to expect the Bible to refer to roles that were common in their world, even if not so common in ours, like prophets, priests and kings. And what about judges? It’s confusing because the judges we find in the Bible aren’t anything like the judges of our time. Sure they settle disputes, but they do a whole lot more.
In this first lesson on the judges, we want to make sense of them in their historical and cultural setting: Who were they? Why were they necessary? What was going on in their regional events and powers that impacted choices they made?
As you’ve come to expect with a new module, our orientation lesson will provide some big picture handles to guide us through the whole book.
