Galatians was a great book to start our journey in Paul’s epistles. It opens up the biggest issue in the church during its first generation: the theological tension between legalism and faith and the related social tension between Jews and Gentiles.

And we haven’t finished sorting these tensions out. The Galatians went to one extreme, which Paul will address in our next lesson. What we’ll discover is that he never corrects one extreme by simply going to the other extreme. It will take us a couple of lessons to watch him masterfully describe the Christian life with full respect for both the Law and the life of the Spirit.
