In | Differing Canonical Divisions

The graphic above displays the major divisions of the Old and New Testament. Among most Christians, Joshua fits a group of books typically referred to as the “Historical” books (see above). However, Jewish Bible scholars have organized the books differently. They consider Joshua as part of a larger section called “The Prophets” (or Nevi’im) composed of Joshua, Judges, 1 and 2 Samuel and 1 and 2 Kings, along with the major and minor prophets. This reinforces the Jewish view of “prophetic history.”
