As we close out this lesson on substitutes for God, let’s consider the relationship between God and kings as father and sons, and between Israel’s rulers and their sons. Sons are supposed to follow the godly examples of their fathers. That would make for a healthy monarchy (i.e., kings being like their heavenly Father, and their sons following in their footsteps). Israel’s history unfortunately doesn’t play itself out that way.
