Providing hope for a generation that grew up in exile meant looking back to the golden years—especially the golden years of David and Solomon, of a unified monarchy and a new empire, of a stunning temple and YHWH-centered worship.
All of that helped put exile in perspective. God had proven His faithfulness over the centuries, and He could certainly be trusted during this season of discipline. The presence of the Divine King was at the heart of Israel’s story—and He had not deserted His people.
When Israel returns from exile, one of the chief tasks will be to rebuild the great temple and restart worship there. So let’s take one more lesson to appreciate the amazing ritual system God created for His people.
