As we will see in this lesson, “Wisdom Literature” was a well-defined genre in the ancient world. To begin to unlock this, read Proverbs 1:1-7 and answer the following questions:
- What is the purpose of Proverbs? (HINT: notice the purpose clauses signaled by “for” and “to”)
- How critical is the “fear of the LORD” in developing wisdom?
- What do you think that kind of “fear” is? How would you define “fear of the LORD”?
