Wrap-Up

As the book of Numbers comes to a close, how do you judge your ancestors? Do they seem inexplicably fickle, or do you see a reflection of our own flaws and failures?

You’ve also had a good chance to see how God responds to faithlessness.  Were you more surprised by His patience or by His judgment? Many are stunned at the price Moses paid for what seems to have been a momentary slip, an understandably angry outburst. But what do you think? What might have been God’s purpose? 

The Bible makes clear that God’s ways are higher than our ways. To quote a line from The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, “He is good, but he is not safe.” God cares for each person, but His purpose transcends the life of one person, even Moses, and spans across the world and over all of history. 

Perhaps there’s a clue here, that the Bible is not a collection of stories of heroes. It’s not about great men and women. It’s about a great God, who accomplishes great things through very ordinary, very flawed people like you and me.
