Seasons and seasonal harvests, of course, were hardly unique to Israel. The celebrations associated with these agricultural events were in one sense generic and common to ancient Near Eastern culture and religion. But rather than disrupt these natural patterns, God reclaims them for His people and infuses them with new meaning and purpose.
