Now that we’ve looked at the one day at the center of the holy calendar, Sabbath, we can begin to make more sense of the major festivals clustered around the Spring and Fall. Some festivities lasted for days and others for weeks.

Before we dig in, let’s check our preconceived ideas and initial feelings: What comes to mind when you hear the word “holiday”? How about “holy day”? Now, what about “liturgy”? And “festival”? We probably have a lot of different ideas and sentiments about these words. So let’s go to the Bible to better understand what God had in mind with his calendar. You may be surprised at just how important these holy days and festivals were.
