This lesson is about holiness, but not the holiness of some uniform, standardized prescription. Paul has the geographical context of Corinth fully in mind, and he also has the theological context of Christian freedom in mind as well. The more we understand about first century Corinth and the misunderstood notion of freedom, the better we’ll understand the message of this book for our own cultures.

We’re going to find the creative tension we saw in Galatians: that Paul avoids both legalism and license, never giving up the correct place of the Law on one hand or freedom on the other. Let’s watch this inspired theologian at work with real people who want the benefits of Christianity without any constraints.
