Paul’s warning of suffering for those “sent out” with the gospel mirrors the warnings of Jesus in the Gospels.

Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles.
Matthew 10:16-18 ESV

Paul is making it clear that being a representative of the gospel isn’t a free pass out of life’s difficulties, but a way of encountering those difficulties in hope and love, and most importantly, in Christ

Notice the encouragement that Jesus provides after his warning:

Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 10:31-32 ESV
