We certainly don’t have to wait till the New Testament to get rich biblical teaching on the life of faith, do we? Joshua has opened up our eyes to tensions we all live with, including this lesson’s topic of “living with the real in light of a future ideal.” And those aren’t the same, right?

We hope you are encouraged by what God has promised you, by what He says is your inheritance, even if you can’t fully experience that inheritance yet. There is “land that yet remains” for all of us. We’ll have to follow our spiritual ancestors on this journey of Conquest and Settlement for a few hundred years before they’ll enjoy the full benefits of the promise—a promise going back to Abraham a half century ago.

That’s sobering, but it’s a helpful reminder that it takes time to experience all that God has in store for us.

Next up: the final lesson on Joshua—covenant renewal.
