Being called is certainly a biblical idea, and David was called without a doubt. But why did that calling come with so much heartache and confusion and danger? 

We may not understand fully what God was doing with David, but his experience was certainly not an exception. It’s a pattern we’ve looked at before, and we’ll see it again. You have probably found this pattern to be both sobering and encouraging. Sobering because calling comes with conflict. Encouraging because many have gone down this road before . . . and persevered.
