Prophetic or messianic leadership was a dangerous business in ancient Rome. But when Jesus arrived in history people were still actively looking for a messiah. Previous “messiahs” had left them wanting, and those who did not accept the messianic claims about Jesus would continue looking for another savior after Jesus’ ascension. 

Consider the common person on the street who isn’t walking with Christ. 

  1. What kind of person would they look for to be a “savior” for them—to save them from what they consider to be their greatest problems or concerns?
