As we dig deeper into the background of the sacrificial system, we need to look directly at the centrality of blood in much of it. Although Israel’s neighbors also sacrificed animals, blood was more central to the worship of God’s people. It was preparing them for the gruesome reality of another sacrifice to come—Christ’s death on Calvary.
