If you want a challenge, try to memorize all the Kings and Queens of England. It’s not much easier to keep all the kings of Israel and Judah straight. There will be a lot of them, that’s true. But in this first lesson we’ll start by just watching how they are presented in the books of Kings. There are basically two types of kings to keep track of, and the characteristics of each type are obvious. Although the history here can be as depressing as it was in the book of Judges, you’ll see God’s faithfulness to one royal line. And that faithfulness will continue through the rest of the Old Testament, setting the stage for the arrival of Jesus Christ.
