One of the most memorable interchanges between Elijah and Ahab revolved around a man named Naboth and his vineyard. The account is given to us in 1 Kings 21.

The account begins with Ahab approaching Naboth to request his vineyard, which sits near Ahab’s palace in Jezreel. Ahab offers to pay for the field; Naboth rebuffs the king.

Ahab returns home sulking, refusing to eat. Jezebel, the queen, rebukes Ahab for not acting like a king. Jezebel then concocts a plan to bring false charges and witnesses against Naboth and have him stoned. When it’s done, Ahab takes possession of the vineyard. This incites a word from the Lord from Elijah, who prophecies that Ahab will one day have his blood spilled in the same place where Naboth was stoned.
