When you think of a biblical prophet, what comes to mind? Someone who predicts the future? Someone who pronounces judgment? We’ve met prophets before but Elijah is a towering figure in the books of the kings. He will predict the future and he will pronounce judgment. But he also has a personal side . . . a side we might relate to. There’s faith, but there’s also fear. He did a lot of preaching but he also did a lot of running. Let’s get acquainted with the real Elijah, a human like us who managed to be faithful when he felt completely alone in his loyalty to God.
